Bible Reading: Genesis 9:8-17
Dear Friends,
Today we renew our Covenant with God. Covenant means a complete exchange of position and power, an unbreakable pledge of all that one has toward the other. Like the contract it is, every promise in the Bible affirms God’s everlasting love toward you and me and all His children.
When God established a New Covenant with mankind, it was sealed forever by the blood of Jesus. He is now the Mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises (Heb. 8:6)
That means everything God is or has is covenanted to His adopted children, those who are born again, delivered from the power of darkness, and translated into the kingdom of His dear Son (Col. 1:13).
That new covenant guarantees your seat at God’s table. Even when we were dead in sins, [He] hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace ye are saved), and hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus (Eph. 2:5-7).
Did you get that? God wants to show off for you! He wants you to share in His exceeding riches and loving kindness, His overwhelming grace and favor, for all the ages to come. He’s got more than plenty for every one of His kids.
The Bible explains that we are adopted into His family, heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17), and partakers of His promise in Christ by the Gospel (Eph. 3:6). If you’ve ever been an heir, you know that there is a binding connection, usually by blood, to the deceased, and an unbreakable contract that the heirs receive what is specified in the will. God created an eternal covenant to guarantee your portion of His Blessing. In case you’re wondering, that portion includes all sufficiency in all things!
There are two words that describe that kind of love. One is the Greek word agape the supernatural, unrestricted, unconditional, overpowering love from God toward His covenant children. The other word is hêsed, a Hebrew word that encompasses God’s unlimited mercy, kindness, tender mercies, lovingkindness and fidelity. Hêsed describes the unbreakable, unprecedented covenant of God toward us. God’s hêsed is the reason Jesus could say, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” God’s mercy and grace are so everlasting, that the only thing God requires from you to receive all that He has is your faith.
God’s Covenant is spelled out in hundreds of Bible verses and illustrated by hundreds more. Jesus spoke in parables, but you can take your understanding of God and write “covenant” into every story. God’s protection, mercy, deliverance, provision, healing and every other promise are yours by faith because He chose you and covenanted Himself to you. It’s His promise of love that will last for eternity. You are loved!
