A Statement from the office of Presiding Bishop, Rev Zipho Siwa, on the 2019 Elections:
A CALL FOR TOLERANCE TOWARDS FREE, PEACEFUL AND FAIR ELECTIONS!
As the Methodist Church of Southern Africa we have observed, with much appreciation, the free, democratic, and visible tolerance in the election campaigning in spite of our political differences as a nation. This is encouraging. The few reported incidents of violence and shootings are unfortunate and should not be allowed to happen again anywhere in our beloved country. Now with just a few days before the elections, we add our voice in appealing for even more tolerance, so that as a young democracy we can again deliver free, fair and peaceful elections. I appeal to all political parties, civil society organisations, media and religious community as well as all citizens to help promote tolerance so that everyone can exercise her/his right to vote in a conducive environment.
As the church, we also encourage all registered voters to be active participants in the 2019 Elections. This will go a long way in helping us as a nation to work together towards a better life for all.
